Additional Information
| In Depth | Quality High Speed Drill Bits The Magnum drill was originally designed for drilling holes that broke into a larger hole and back out again. Today these drills are still needed for Roll-pins and other types of cross drilling applications where the drill needs to be robust to stand the strain of breaking into other holes or breaking out at an awkward angle. It is also useful for drilling where conditions are not stable, for example: - The part flexes under cut or the machine moves as in the case of a hand held pistol drill. High-speed standard drills are of lighter construction and do not stand up to arduous conditions. Cobalt drills are too brittle when subjected to movement of the drill relative to the work piece. The Magnum drill is 75% heavier in the web on sizes up to 3.75mm diameter. On sizes of 3.8mm and larger they have the unique dual web where the point of the drill is similar to a standard drill but with a split point for better centring qualities. The addition of a very heavy back taper for 11/2 diameter is the area that a moving drill requires for support and provides the drill with the greatest strength to resist side movement. The slower than standard spiral on the flute helps resist pull-through when breaking into the hole. All the drills have a split point to assist in ease of starting and the 135 point is more durable on tougher materials. |
